Do you want a stock UAZ converted to RHD here in Russia? That can be arranged!
Actually I am thinking about that

Unfortunately, new cars here must have Euro-III engines. So either I must buy a car and replace the engine (wasteful and expensive), or I need to buy a car without an engine. I don't think you can buy a car without an engine, can you?

A Euro-III Andoria diesel engine costs about €3300 (about 110000 rubles) direct from the factory in Poland.

There is an alternative. Cars older than 20 years, with petrol engines, are classified as "classic cars", and can be exempted from the exhaust rules. So I could convert a 20-year old UAZ to RHD and keep the original engine.

I know of a RHD 452 for sale in England, but it is in bad condition. I think most of the bodywork would have to be replaced. To send a new body from Russia should be almost as expensive as sending a complete car Also I really want a 469/31512, not a van.

maybe there is a sense to look for UAZ for example at auto.ru ?
here: http://www.cars.auto.ru/uaz/all/?sort=year

for example - 31512 , 1986 year with foto
http://www.cars.auto.ru/sale/DH67722/

then if you find what you want - fly in Russia, buy it here from private person and then transport UAZ to HK ..
hmmm... but it is difficult way

Don't worry Maurice!
I thinck that best solution for you is: you will find 53 friends in Hong Kong which are want to pay the UAZ with you! In this case you take 2 goods by one price. You will pay a UAZ and you will increase number of your friends!

As we say in Russia : If you have 100 friends it is better then if you have 100 dollars!

Good idea! But I still need a Euro-III engine

Maybe I should just buy this one instead...

По умолчанию Anyone familiar with АвтоРай?

I found they have a page for export orders

http://avtoray.ru/index.php?section=257

They say "We sale UAZ cars of all models, modifications and whatever completion." Whatever completion? Maybe I can get one without an engine!

Better still, maybe they can fit a Euro-III Andoria engine and convert it to RHD? Or maybe I am daydreaming again?

Hi Maurece,

I think by saying "whatever competion" they meant "with options of your choice".
Andoria-engined UAZes are sold here in Russia by dealers.

I personally know the guy who owns tanksforsale.co.uk. He is for real. However, isn't UK too far for you to go for LHD UAZ? He imports UAZes from Eastern Germany.

There is another way to keep the original engine.
1) Buy brand new UAZ in Russia
2) Buy very old UAZ in Russia with all paperwork.
3) Write-off the...... new UAZ (That is right, the new one)
4) Now you have the certificates for all the parts which have numbers on them: body, chassis and engine
5) Legally "replace" body, engine and chassis in the old UAZ
6) You have brand new UAZ with old production year in the paperwork.
7) Import it to your country. Do you live in Hong Kong?

Yours,
Dmitri

Okay, but what about "all modifications"? Anyway I will send them an e-mail, see what they say.

Maybe, but Russia is far away too For me it's easier to buy from the UK (I am English) but of course it will be cheaper to buy from Russia. The big problem is to buy a 20-year old car without viewing it first.

As for your other idea, it is possible, but not really practical. Simpler to buy an old car in good condition and ask a garage in Russia to make some restoration before sending it to me. No need to buy two cars. However the Government inspectors here for sure never saw a UAZ before. They don't know what is old and what is new

I do live in Hong Kong, I have lived here for more than 10 years.

Maybe they already bought some of the RHD UAZ? UAZ factory web page says they made 100, but UAZ employee told me they have only 54 today.... For sure a UAZ from Japan should be the most expensive UAZ in the world, but I will send them an e-mail nevertheless.

Thanks for your help.
